Tommie Owen provides school-based mental health services, with a special focus on children and families. She believes that families work best when everyone feels supported, heard, and connected. Tommie understands the importance of working together as a family from the beginning to build healthy relationships and support one another through all stages of life.
Tommie uses different therapy approaches based on the needs of each child and family. Her approach includes Attachment Theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She believes there is no “one-size-fits-all” approach to therapy and works to find what works best for each person and family.
Helping others has always been important to Tommie. After high school, she joined the United States Air Force as a medic. She later earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and recently completed her Master’s degree in Social Work.
Tommie has a passion for working with children and creating a safe, welcoming space where they can be themselves without fear of judgment. She understands how important it is for children to learn how to recognize and manage their emotions at a young age. These skills provide a strong foundation to help children feel more confident, succeed in the classroom, build healthy relationships, and develop skills they can carry with them into adulthood.
Outside of work, Tommie enjoys spending time with her family of five and her extended family. She enjoys staying active by working out and running, as well as spending time outdoors riding her bike and hiking. She also loves traveling, learning about different cultures, trying new foods, and reading.
