Verna Shearer

Verna Shearer holds a Master of Education in marriage and family counseling from Lindsey Wilson college, and a Bachelor of Science in human services and counseling with a focus on Organizational leadership from Northern Kentucky University. Over the course of her career Verna has gained diverse experience working with individuals facing challenges such as re- entry, poverty and homelessness. Her nonprofit work includes roles at organizations like the Lighthouse Youth services, the Drop Inn Center, and Volunteers of America. Most recently, she served as a practitioner III at the riverside county department of children and family services, where she worked in the investigation department. Currently, verna is a career coach at Cincinnati works, where her passion and commitment drive the organizations mission to eliminate poverty through coaching
services. She provides case management and directs clients to resources for addiction recovery, financial coaching behavioral and legal aid. Always striving to better serve clients, Verna actively seeks out additional training and certifications. She recently earned her mental health first aid certification and completed the National Career Development Association (NCDA) certification through Xavier University. She is also the owner of Shear Stressor Therapeutic Services, LLC where she offers case management services. Verna is deeply compassionate about addressing issues such as access to mental health care, affordable housing and fair wages. In her free time, she enjoys watching sports and spending time with her three sons and eight grandchildren, affectionately known as “MY8isGreat”.
