Machen Champion, MA, LPC

Machen Champion is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Ohio who works with children and their families. She specializes in a type of therapy called Play Therapy. Through play, Machen helps children address and resolve their own problems in a way that comes naturally to them. Currently, Machen is training in the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), which is developmentally sensitive, neurobiology-informed approach to clinical problem solving that integrates core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology to inform work with children, families and their communities. She is also close to finishing the necessary requirements for her Registered Play Therapist credentials.

A Cincinnati native, Machen earned her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Xavier University and her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Cincinnati. Machen has been working with children for over 10 years in a variety of settings including teaching first grade, working in an inpatient psychiatric unit at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and counseling children and their families in outpatient community mental health. With her background in education, Machen has a passion for counseling in a school based setting so that she can support not only children and their families, but also teachers and staff.
